A Story of Forgiveness

Spirit asked me to share this story with you as an illustration of forgiveness and compassion when a person does something cruel. There is a family in my neighbourhood who moved here approximately three years ago. It's a blended family with the older son's girlfriend and infant also living with them. They are loud, messy, and unfriendly, except for the children who gladly speak with neighbours. The adults have numerous yelling matches, and the police are frequently dispatched to their townhome. The father gets angry following altercations and races down the street in his vehicle with no care for the children who are playing outside. I hear the adults cursing at the children on a regular basis, and the kids are often left to their own devices. We recently discovered something horrible about the family. They bred their dog to have puppies to gain some revenue, but the poor wee puppies were found discarded in a compost bin, one left dead. When they were discovered by another neighbour, they were severely malnourished with their little ribs protruding. The adults were starving the neglected pups. When this came to the attention of both the neighbourhood and town, people were shocked and angry. Some publicized their address, revealed their names, and started to organize a protest against the family. I, too, was horrified at the treatment of the defenceless dogs, but I did not participate in the shaming and naming of the adults who did this. I was aware that the police, Humane Society, and other authorities were on top of the case and dealing with it accordingly. Instead, I prayed for the family. While others were lobbing hate bombs towards them, I chose, instead, to send them love and ask that the Great Spirit/God/Source help them, for if anyone needed divine intervention, it was the adults who could commit such a terrible crime. Indeed, my prayers included the puppies and canine mom as well, but I truly felt that anyone who could be cruel and neglectful to defenceless beings, needed a great deal of our love. I acknowledge it is not easy to do such a thing when someone behaves in such a heartless way, but Spirit wants to remind us that they, too, are part of Source. We are all one, and to send them hate only perpetuates the very negativity that appalls us. When someone behaves horribly, ask God to help them and send them love. I promise you that it makes a difference. Test it on someone you personally know with whom you have had an argument or do not have a good relationship. Send them love and ask that the Source help them. Be honest with your intentions. Ask only in light and love, and notice if it changes something. It's worth a try.

  • I am happy to report that the puppies are doing much better now. They are well-fed and in good care.
